Who Needs a Will?
Almost everyone needs a will. In one legal
document, a will directs how your assets are
to be handled when you die, who is to wrap
up your estate, whether trusts are to be
created for your children, and who will take
care of your children. In particular, a will
is needed for anyone who:
Owns any real property (a house, farm land,
etc.)
Anyone who has any investment accounts
Anyone who has children under eighteen
Anyone who desires for their estate to be
handled cheaper and more efficiently
Anyone who does not want Texas’ heirship
laws to decide who gets their property
Are Wills Expensive?
Estate planning for the very wealthy can be
complex and expensive. For the rest of us,
drafting and finalizing a will is usually a
simple matter. A will for an individual can
sometimes be done for as little as $600.00
and for a married couple, for $800.00. At
the same time, and at no additional cost,
our office will provide powers of attorney
which are essential documents in the case of
your disability
What do I need to Decide to Write a Will?
The essential things to decide in writing a
will, are:
To whom do you want your property to be
transferred?
Who do you want to be responsible for
handling the estate (the executor)?
If you have children, who will take care of
your children?
If you leave money to children or young
adults, do you want a trust?
If you set up a trust, who do you want to be
the trustee?
At what age do you want the trust to
terminate?
